Sohar

The place today

Sohar is one of Oman's historic maritime cities and today a major industrial port and free-zone centre on the Batinah coast. Its name is attached to one of the most famous traditions of Indian Ocean voyaging.

It is a working commercial city rather than a leisure destination, with a substantial industrial and logistics base already in place.

• A commercial port environment: yacht facilities are not the priority of the existing harbour.
• Reliable Batinah sea breezes; a low, straight coast with few natural anchorages.

• Dibba Musandam lies approximately 92 nautical miles to the north.

The concept proposes a marina alongside the existing port city, aimed at business tourism, yacht services and the northern industrial catchment — not at replacing the port's commercial function.
