The place today
Khasab lies at the northern tip of the Musandam peninsula, on the Strait of Hormuz. The landscape is unlike anywhere else in Arabia: steep limestone mountains dropping straight into deep water, cut by long inlets that sailors inevitably compare to fjords.
It is a genuine port town with an airport, a ferry link and long-standing traffic between Oman and the UAE, and it is the traditional first Omani landfall for boats coming from the Gulf.
Cruising notes
- Deep, sheltered khors within a short passage of the town, suitable for overnight anchoring.
- Heavy commercial shipping in the Strait — passage planning and watchkeeping matter here more than anywhere else on the coast.
- Strong gusts can descend off high ground with little warning.

- Dibba Musandam lies approximately 39 nautical miles to the south.
- Distances are indicative great-circle estimates with a routing allowance, not navigational data.

The concept positions Khasab as the northern gateway of the network: an arrival point for Gulf and UAE yacht traffic with customs and immigration capability, superyacht berthing and a base for Musandam cruising and diving.
