Mussanah

The place today

Mussanah is the home of Oman's organised sailing activity: an existing marina and sailing school on the Batinah coast, with a long track record of hosting racing and training.

Its combination of consistent breeze, flat water and existing shore facilities is the reason the national programme is based here.

Cruising notes

• The most consistent racing conditions on the coast, driven by the afternoon sea breeze.
• Straightforward approaches and an established marina basin.
• Good road access to Muscat and the interior.

Position on the coast

• Sohar lies approximately 69 nautical miles to the north.
• Al Mouj — Muscat lies approximately 44 nautical miles to the south.
• Distances are indicative great-circle estimates with a routing allowance, not navigational data.

In the proposed network

In the conceptual Phase 1 the site is described as the northern gateway and the sporting heart of the network: training, regattas, youth sailing and the human capital layer that a maritime industry depends on.
