The technical heart
Duqm
5 MIN READ
The place today
Duqm is the centre of Oman's largest industrial and logistics development programme, with a deep-water port, drydock complex and a designated economic zone on the Al Wusta coast.
It is the only point on the southern coast where heavy marine engineering capability already exists.
Cruising notes
- Real technical capability: lifting, engineering and industrial services.
- A long passage from anywhere else on the coast — which is precisely the problem the network concept addresses.
Position on the coast
- Masirah lies approximately 104 nautical miles to the north.
- Ras Madrakah lies approximately 48 nautical miles to the south.
- Distances are indicative great-circle estimates with a routing allowance, not navigational data.
In the proposed network
In the conceptual Phase 1 Duqm is the Indian Ocean gateway and the technical heart of the network: refit, service, dry storage and logistics for yachts on the ocean route, built alongside existing industrial infrastructure rather than in isolation.
Classification in the concept: International maritime hub · data status EXISTING · Phase 1 role: INDIAN OCEAN GATEWAY.
All network classifications, footprints and roles are preliminary and conceptual. They are planning propositions for study, not approved projects or confirmed government decisions.
